A few months ago while anticipating the arrival of another niece (horray!) I began thinking about what to make for the new family addition. If you are a knitter like me, you may have an overwhelming stash of yarn odds and ends. I was pleased to find in my stash the remnants of beautiful soft Alpaca yarn my girls had selected a few years back. Every year we visit the same alpaca farm near Hood River, Oregon. My girls instantaneously fell in love with the long-eyelashed beauties the first time we visited. Year after year we return to visit Cascade Alpaca and their beautiful store Foothills Yarn and Fiber. After discovering the remnants I quickly decided that the new babe needed a few delicious new hats to weather the harsh Croatian winter.

I used a circular needle and the ever quick stocking stitch. This style knits up fast and easy. The softness of alpaca is fabulous but it is also hypo-allergenic which ensures the baby will not have a reaction as she might have with wool. After the hats were knitted I added a simple felt decoration in layered hearts and flowers all finished with a complementing button.

They turned out so sweet and soft for our new niece Gabriela!
